What are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a permanent prosthetic tooth which takes the place of a gap in your teeth or replaces an existing damaged tooth. A dental implant is attached to a titanium post, that is inserted into a patient’s jawbone, the post acts as a root for the tooth. By using a titanium post as the root system, it provides your tooth a much stronger base then the previous tooth.

Using a dental implant allows you to replace a tooth that’s been lost as a result of decay, gum disease or some form of trauma.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Appearance: Modern dental implants are generally made of porcelain. So they look and feel like your natural teeth, custom-made to fit your face and mouth.
  • Stronger: They use a titanium post, embedded into your gums. This holds your dental implant in place far stronger than the roots of your normal teeth.
  • Better speech: Dentures and other replacement options don’t fit as firm as implants. They may slip or move as you talk.
  • Eating: Chewy food is as easy as with natural teeth.
  • Comfort: as opposed to using dentures, implants become firmly a part of your jaw.
  • Durable: Implants can last for many years with proper care and regular dental visits.
  • Convenient: No need for bonding or dental adhesives.
  • Easy to clean: Same as natural teeth.

Procedure
To begin the procedure, the titanium post is inserted into the jawbone by removing a portion of the gum tissue. The implant is strategically placed, in order to ensure that the post will fuse to the jawbone. After about 3-6 months a return appointment will be made to ensure that the post has fused. The porcelain crown or implant is then attached to the titanium post as an abutment. For more information on dental implants or dental implant procedures, be sure to contact us today.
